Driving schools a focus for Dubai tyre safety campaign
Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority cites tyre related issues as a serious contributory factor to road accidents within the emirate, and in response the agency has launched a ‘Tire Soundness’ campaign, which will run until the end of August. According to the RTA, learner drivers and driving instructions are a particular focus for this campaign and will be targeted through driving schools, or driving institutes as they are known in Dubai. In particular, instructors at driving schools will be educated on the key points of tyre inspection and the factors contributing to tyre wear or failure.
According to Ahlam Al Feel, director of monitoring and enforcement for the RTA’s Licensing Agency, the aim of the campaign is to “uplift the traffic education of driving instructors and learners, and instil the basic concepts of risks associated with the use of old, expired or defective tyres which are mainly responsible for major traffic accidents.
“Through its strategy of making roads safer by curbing the use of defective tyres, the Licensing Agency is giving full attention to the campaign and is looking forward to achieve the intended objectives of raising the traffic awareness level of both instructors and learners at the driving institutes,” Al Feel continued. “Instructors are urged to carry out periodic check-ups of tyres mounted on their vehicles to ensure the safety of individuals and roads.”
