Continental pumps up trailer tyre range with UK HTR2 and HTL2 launch
Continental Tyres is seeking to pump up its truck tyre range with two key 17.5-inch tyres in its trailer portfolio: the HTR2 for regional transport and the HTL2 for long-distance transport operations. The tyres are designed and engineered specifically for volume-based trailers and their smaller circumference allows for greater carrying capacity on regional and long-distance work.
Continental’s HTR2 boasts a high load-bearing capacity and “maximum traction” and performance on any road surface. Its special tread design with blocks and narrow grooves is designed to offer “exceptional directional control” while at the same time preventing stones becoming trapped. Furthermore, Continental’s engineers have designed the specific shape of the tread grooves on the HTR2 to for quiet running on more rigorous regional operations.
For long-distance operators the HTL2 low-profile tyre improves upon the benchmarks set by its predecessor in terms of low rolling resistance and overall mileage potential. The new tread on the HTL2, with its narrower longitudinal grooves and wide, closed shoulders, ensures minimal deformation on the road and therefore less friction. The principal benefit of this is improved fuel consumption over longer distances. A deep tread, the high side stability of the casing and the rubber compound also contribute to substantial fuel savings in everyday use.
Arthur Gregg, sales and marketing director – commercial, at Continental, said: “Like…all of Continental’s product ranges, the two new premium tyres are engineered and manufactured to deliver the best possible whole-life cost savings. This translates into better fuel consumption – owing to low-rolling resistance – and extended tyre life. The benefits of the new 17.5-inch tyres extend beyond the first tyre life because each Continental tyre can potentially be regrooved, retreaded and regrooved a second time should it meet the stringent inspection requirements”.
As with all Continental’s second generation tyres, the new products feature a reinforced steel cord bead and the AirKeep inner-liner against loss of inflation pressure.
The HTR2 for use in regional transport and on low-loaders comes in sizes 205/65 R 17.5, 215/75 R 17.5 and 235/75 R 17.5, while the HTL2 long-distance transport tyre is available in the sizes 245/70 R 17.5, 215/75 R 17.5 and 235/75 R 17.5.
