Yokohama employees pitch lend a hand to disaster recovery efforts
Yokohama Rubber has launched a programme to facilitate employees wishing to participate in earthquake/tsunami recovery efforts. The first group of 28 Yokohama volunteers travelled to northeast Japan on July 11 and spent three days clearing mud from ditches and clearing debris from the surrounding land in the Miyagi Prefecture city of Higashi-Matsushima.
This on-site assistance from Yokohama employees comes on top of company and employee donations to the relief effort, which by April 28 totalled approximately 88.5 million yen (£700,000), and the supply of relief supplies and offers of employment to persons who lost their livelihoods in the disaster.
