Tyres stolen from another lorry while driver sleeps
Thieves have raided another parked HGV and stolen its load of tyres while its driver slept. This latest attack took place at the Barton Business Park, off the A38 in Staffordshire. According to local paper the Burton Mail, the driver of a lorry was woken by a ‘rocking’ sensation in the cab and saw four or five men who, having slashed the truck’s kerbside wagon, helped themselves to Pirelli motorcycle tyres. The tyres were loaded into a white mini van, which then drove off southbound along the A38.
The Burton Mail notes the theft took place in the early hours of July 21, however Staffordshire Police has only just released details of the incident. An alcohol theft employing a similar method also occurred nearby that day, while the back of a third lorry was slashed without its contents being disturbed.
Staffordshire police reports it is unaware of the value of the tyres taken. This theft bears a number of similarities to one occurring in North Yorkshire on June 15; in that incident, thieves stole more than £16,000 worth of Pirelli passenger car and 4×4 tyres from a lorry while its driver slept in a lay-by.
