STRO secretary general Johansson dies
Torsten Johansson, secretary general of the Scandinavian Tyre and Rim Organisation (STRO) has died. He was 59. Imported Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (ITMA) president David Seward said: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Torsten and we would like to offer our deepest sympathy and condolences to his family and colleagues. Although our relationship with Torsten was still in its infancy, it was clear to see his expertise, passion and dedication towards the industry and his death will be a sad loss.”
ITMA’s statement said Johansson was hugely respected in the European tyre industry and had been working closely with the association over the last few months, playing an instrumental role in guiding its membership of STRO, which had only recently been approved. As part of his work in understanding and advising on how the two organisations can work together, Johansson attended and delivered a presentation at the most recent ITMA technical meeting held in May.
Among the many activities that he carried out on behalf of STRO, it was his work in compiling and producing the organisation’s highly-regarded and extremely comprehensive technical data book which first raised ITMA’s interest in STRO. The association realised that the high-detailed technical information would be of great value to its members, as an extremely comprehensive work of reference.
