Nizhnekamsk plant to supply Daimler’s Russian JV with Conti tyres?
Russian corporation Tatneft, which operates the Nizhnekamsk Solid Steel Chord Tire Factory, reports that a delegation of representatives from Continental AG and Daimler AG visited the company in mid-July with a view to selecting the tyre maker as an original equipment supplier for its Mercedes-Benz Trucks Vostok joint-venture facility. The delegation toured the Nizhnekamsk factory in Tatarstan and viewed the technologies and production processes in use.
The Nizhnekamsk Solid Steel Chord Tire Factory entered production in December 2009 and the following September OAO Tatneft and Continental AG signed an agreement covering the production of Continental-brand tyres at the plant. The first Continental tyres were manufactured there at the start of this year. Anticipated plant output for 2011 is 600,000 tyres, including 110,000 Continental tyres. The factory should reach its full operating capacity next year, at which time it is expected to produce 1.2 million tyres per annum.
