L-Ray goes smaller for third DVS-1220 tyre analyser
Michigan-based business L-Ray has been manufacturing non-destructive tyre testing equipment for almost 40 years – previously under the names IHI (International Holographics, Inc) and Grant Engineering. While a small business, it operates on the global stage in manufacturing and retreading segments – in total, the company says it provides over 250 machines in more than 24 countries – first producing holography machines and then shearography machines. In 2007 L-Ray introduced its new Differometric Technology, which president Lee Petrimoulx says is “much faster and provides high quality digital images for checking tyres or retread casings”.
“Our latest offering is our new Version 3 DVS-1220 Tire Analyzer,” Petrimoulx told Tyres & Accessories. “We completely re-engineered the Version 2 machine to have a smaller footprint, lighter weight and easier operation and maintenance. Many of our customers simply didn’t have the room in their factories for large machines. We also updated our Windows-based software to be easier to set up and process new tyre sizes. The 1220 is the size of the vacuum chamber in mm (48”). We also have a 1575 mm (60”) design.”
The DVS Differomatic Tire Analyzer allows manufacturers and retreaders to perform the necessary checks on passenger, truck and racing tyres weighing up to 260lbs (118kg) and with diameters between 13” and 32”. The base machine includes four cameras displaying four 90 degree images, displaying the crown and much of the sidewall. Bead to bead inspection is also an option. The machine’s dimensions are 120” high, 60” wide and 83.5” deep.
