Tyrespot promotes tyre safety checks with TV and online films
North East-based tyre wholesaler and retailer Tyrespot recently screened what the company is describing as “a highly successful TV advertising campaign in the North East of England.” The campaign, featuring two characters, promoted the company’s free tyre safety checks that are available throughout its network of retail stores. The advert was filmed at the beginning of the year and aired during April.
However, the filming did not stop there. In addition Tyrespot also produced three short films designed to be shown as web clips to highlight, in an entertaining way, safety issues associated with tyres. The films are designed to educate consumers by engaging them through the use of humour whilst delivering a clear safety message at the end of each clip.
The retail director and the driving force behind the production of the films Johnathon Shaw who commented: “For me the tyre industry does not try hard enough to educate the consumer in a way that will get them interested and so allow the industry to make them aware of the safety benefits that can be gained from good tyre sense. The web clips that we have produced do this, and we intend to roll out more on other tyre issues in the future. We have also tried to get our own staff involved in the concepts for these clips, one employee even came up with the basic concept for one of our web films.”

The web clips will be used on Tyrespot’s website, which is currently being redeveloped and all films can be seen now on Tyrespot’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/tspottv.
Winter tyre safety
The latest Tyrespot videos are not the firm’s only safety efforts. At the end of January Johnathon Shaw took part in a live discussion on BBC Newcastle’s Breakfast Show where he talked about the advantages of using winter tyres, not only in severe winter weather conditions, but also in temperatures of less than seven degrees Celsius. He was joined on the programme by Stuart Jackson in his role as chairman of TyreSafe.
“Normal tyres are just not designed for winter conditions and it is essential for the tyre industry to educate drivers on the benefits to be gained from switching to winter tyres between the months of October and March.” said Shaw. “What’s more, as our winters could possibly continue to get worse, we need to reinforce the message and persuade drivers to develop this habit in order to make their vehicles safer to drive in winter weather and to help reduce accidents.”
As a result of this campaign, Tyre Spot Ltd, which has 9 auto retail sites across the region, reports that it saw a huge increase in customer demand for winter tyres across all its branches.
