Totrax enters fifth year distributing Emrald
Twenty-five year-old independent supplier of specialist wheels, tyres, axles and components, Boston’s Totrax Ltd began supplying India-manufactured Emrald Greckster industrial tyres exclusively five years ago. The distributer also supplies the UK market with exclusive products from Europe, manufactured by Italmatic. An effective way in which Totrax has worked is having built up a network of independent industrial tyre specialists supplying the forklift truck and industrial trailer market with a complete range of tyres and wheels. This specialist network allows all members to supply the Emrald or Italmatic brands wherever their customers operate, allowing continuity of brand across the UK. Totrax also states that it will continue to seek to add industrial tyre specialists to its network, encouraging interested parties to contact the company.
Now into its fifth year of Emrald Greckster distribution, Totrax points towards what it terms the “sensible price” of the brand as its major draw. It also claims the tyre can improve traction and decrease rolling resistance, with an abrasion and cut-resistant tread compound for extended life. The brand features soft “Resilio layers” that work to increase driving comfort – essential in increasing productivity – and reduce the need for equipment maintenance. The tyres’ hard base compound reduces deflection and increases stability, Totrax claims.
mrald is the largest exporter of industrial solid tyres from India, going to more than 60 countries across the world, with major markets in the United States, South America, Canada, CIS, Middle East and most European Countries. On its domestic market, it claims to be the largest exporter of ground support tyres for the Indian aeronautical industry and the single largest original equipment manufacturer supplier in the country’s forklift segment, with “more than 90 per cent” of that segment’s market share. The company’s Chennai, India plant achieved ISO 9001-2000 certification in its first year of operations.
Totrax’s other exclusive distribution deal is for Italmatic Comfort C1 tyres, manufactured in Capannori, near Lucca in Tuscany. Thanks to the experience gained through the supply of complete plants for superelastic solid tyres all over the world, Totrax says the Capannori plant is “one of the most sophisticated and technologically advanced production plants with quality certification ISO 9001 (VISION 2000)”. Its “latest generation machinery” allows the manufacture to produce “perfect superelastic solid tyres using cylindrical, radial matrices in six segments”. These matrices are used in the production of radial car truck and OTR tyres throughout the world, while traditional solid tyres are generally produced with two half matrices. The tyres are produced using rubber compounds, prepared with raw materials supplied by “leading European producers”. Totrax says both Italmatic’s and Emrald’s rubber compounds are “regularly submitted to physical-mechanical tests to ensure a constant quality time after time”.
