Jochen Etzel appointed Conti Tire Americas CEO
The top job at Continental Tire the Americas, vacant since Matthias Schönberg’s July 1 transfer to the company’s ContiTech division was confirmed, has been filled by Jochen Etzel. In a statement, Etzel declared his appointment as CEO of Continental Tire the Americas “an excellent opportunity,” and added: “I am excited to take this next step with the CTA team. Matthias Schoenberg guided CTA to a strong and successful business model in manufacturing, product and sales. I look forward to the challenge of continuing to lead CTA to further volume growth, as well as significant new product launches."
The new CEO’s career at the German manufacturer spans almost 20 years; Etzel began as a lawyer in Continental’s corporate law department before taking on the role of financial manager in the ‘International’ business unit, which is responsible for developing Conti’s tyre business outside of the Europe and NAFTA regions, a few years later. From 2003 onwards Etzel led the corporate Mergers & Acquisitions and Corporate Real Estate departments. Specific to Continental’s tyre business, Etzel has consequently developed the company’s international footprint by adding Continental Tyres South Africa and Matador Rubber, Slovakia, as well as numerous distributors, wholesalers and retailers into the Continental tyre divisions.
“We are excited to welcome Jochen as head of CTA and are confident in his leadership and diverse experience from previous roles,” said Nikolai Setzer, Executive Board member and head of Passenger and Light Truck Tires for Continental AG. “His deep knowledge of the international tyre business and outstanding accomplishment in successfully developing our company, make him an ideal choice to lead the CTA team.”
Etzel takes over as CEO on July 1. He will relocate from Continental’s headquarters in Hanover, Germany to the South Carolina area for his new position.
