Decade of Action gets underway – Michelin signs on
On May 11, 2011 – a date that coincides with the official global launch of the World Health Organization and FIA Foundation’s ‘Decade of Action’ – Michelin Group managing partner Jean-Dominique Senard added his signature to the Global Road Safety Commitment to support the Decade of Action for Road Safety, 2011-2020, a United Nations supported and promoted initiative. By signing the declaration, Michelin says it has reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing and further expanding its initiatives to improve road safety.
“Meeting the challenge of road safety not only through tire innovations but also through community involvement is tangible proof of one of our fundamental values, which is respect for people,” stated Senard. Michelin has pledged to raise public awareness of best road safety actions and practices, both directly at its production facilities and sales offices and in the cities, regions and countries where it operates. Tangible actions to this effect include the Fill Up With Air campaign, conducted in Europe since 2003 and recently introduced on other continents, and the ROSYPE (ROad Safety for Young People in Europe) programme, launched in 2009 to raise road safety awareness among 730,000 young Europeans. Michelin also supports programs launched by the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP), in particular its five-year pilot projects introduced in China, the ASEAN countries, India and Brazil.
