Yokohama HPT talks four new UK wheels from TSW
The UK distributor for TSW replacement alloy wheels Yokohama HPT has announced that it has added four new styles to its 2011 UK range of wheels. Two of these wheels use TSW’s “Rotary Forging” manufacturing process to create wheels of higher strength than previous models but with lower weight. The technique involves introducing the molten metal to the mould under pressure, as the mould rotates at high speed. Because of the flow of metal, says Yokohama, the resulting wheel has higher inherent strength than a cast wheel while it can also be made with lower weight, assisting vehicles’ acceleration. Also, it helps to reduce the unsprung weight of the car, which in turn leads to more responsive suspension and hence, improved handling characteristics.
The first of the new styles to feature Rotary Forging is the Nurburgring RF, named after the infamous circuit in the Eiffel Mountains of Germany, with which Yokohama has sponsorship ties. It features seven forked tongues emanating from the five-stud central flange to the very edge of the wheel rim. The Nurburgring is available in Matte Gunmetal, Matte Bronze or Gunmetal with a mirror cut face and sizes start at 7.5×17” and go up to 11×22”.
The Interlagos RF continues TSW’s theme of naming its wheels after iconic racetracks from around the world and has nine square-edged spokes running from the five-stud centre again to the edge of the rim to emphasise its presence. Like the Nurburgring, the Interlagos is available in staggered fitments from 7.5×17” to 11×22” and in Silver with a mirror cut face or Matte Black. The Interlagos is also formed using the Rotary Forging method.
The Valencia features a similar spoke design to the Nurburgring, with seven forked spokes but in addition, also has a split-rim style design, with rim lips up to 3.25” lending it a “more purposeful and motorsport feeling”. It too comes in staggered sizes from 8×17” to 10×20” and in a range of finishes, including Silver, Gloss Black with a mirror cut face and Matte Black.
Finally, the Sepang comes in both four and five-stud varieties, making it suitable for a huge range of applications. Each features a pair of spokes running from either side of each mounting hole, with a fillet detail between, enclosing the hole and finished in black. The spokes run to inside the rim, giving any car a motorsport feel but with unquestionable style. The Sepang4 is available in 15 to 17” sizes, while the Sepang5 runs from 16 to 18” and both come in Matte Black with a Brushed Machine Face and Cut Lip.
All but the Sepang models are suitable for staggered fitments, with larger wheels at the rear than the front. Prices start at £72.50 (exclusive of VAT) for the Sepang4.
