Steve Cundy retires after 40 years at Avon and Cooper
Steve Cundy, business development director for Cooper Tire Europe, has retired after almost 40 years of working at the European headquarters in Melksham, Wiltshire.
Having joined Avon Tyres in November 1971 as the company’s youngest Area Sales Manager at the age of 21, Cundy moved up through the ranks. He was UK sales director when the US-based Cooper Tire & Rubber Company acquired Avon in 1997 and since then has continued to develop Cooper’s car tyre business across Europe as well as becoming the head of the company’s motorcycle business unit and sales team in 2008.
This work has included sales development for the Cooper and Avon brands as well as private labels. He has also managed the company’s original equipment customers plus liaison with all European sales departments and outsource opportunities.
Nigel Hampson, sales and marketing director for Cooper Tire Europe, said: “Steve has been a great asset to the company for four decades and has made a substantial contribution to its success, especially during the past 15 years that we have worked together. We’ll miss his support and dedication but we all wish Steve a long and happy retirement.”
Cundy, who lives in Hilperton near Trowbridge, has many interests that he plans to pursue further in his retirement, including hiking and rambling, motor sport, and investments. He’s planning to tour California, Nevada and Hawaii as well as spend more time with his family, including a nine-month-old grandson.
