Protyre offers free tyre safety check to Easter caravanners
The first opportunity for UK-based caravanners to use their mobile homes is upon us, with the Easter period seeing a fair number of the country’s 2 million or so caravan owners on the road. Micheldever Tyre Services retail arm, Protyre suggests in a new statement that many owners will not carry out basic safety checks despite a lengthy idle spell that could have resulted in tyre distortion and cracking. The company is offering a free Easter Tyre Safety Check at any of its 53 UK outlets for this reason, a good strategy for increasing footfall in what is always a busy time for Britain’s roads.
Protyre states: “Out of season storage conditions can sometimes have a detrimental effect on caravan and trailer tent tyres and owners are recommended to carry out some simple checks to ensure their safety and the safety of their passengers during a journey.” The retail chain suggests that drivers “carefully examine tyres to ensure that there are no cuts, lumps or bulges and that the sidewalls are sound and not affected by ozone cracking or distortion through being left standing for an extended period.”
Protyre also suggests tyres over seven years old should be replaced irrespective of their condition: “Determining the age of a tyre is simple and straightforward. A code is marked on the tyre sidewall with the first two numbers determining the week, with the third and fourth digits referring to the year of manufacture.” Finally the company also mentions the importance of tyre pressure in terms of “safety, stability and economical running of both the caravan and the towing vehicle.”
