Toyo president visits earthquake affected factories
During a visit to Japan’s Miyagi and Fukushima Prefectures, Toyo Tire & Rubber’s president and CEO Kenji Nakakura personally presented an aid donation from the company to Yoshihiro Murai, governor of Miyagi Prefecture, and to the Prefectural Government Office in Fukushima. In total, Toyo has donated 150 million yen (£1.1 million) to assist with relief efforts.
The tyre maker says many of its employees and their family members have suffered as a result of the March 11 earthquake, and Toyo Tires’ business offices in the region have also been adversely affected. Mr. Nakakura’s visit was made with the aim of encouraging employees at the company’s Sendai plant (Iwanuma City, Miyagi Prefecture) and its Fukushima Rubber facility (Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture) while they strive toward recovery, and with the hope that the victims of the disaster can see their region restored as soon as possible.
Upon meeting governor Murai at the Prefectural Government Office in Miyagi on March 24th, Nakakura stated that Toyo Tires, with its strong ties to the region, will “do everything in its powers to assist in Miyagi Prefectures’ recovery.”
