Commercial truck body designers order 100th set of xlite wheels
UK distributor of the xlite wheel brand Motor Wheel Service has reported a milestone with its customers Montracon and Wilcox, both commercial vehicle body designers. MWS has received an order for the companies’ hundredth set of xlite forged aluminium truck wheels for use on their tipper and walking floor trailers. The two companies work together on the production of the trailers, with Montracon providing chassis and Wilcox supplying aluminium tipper body requirements.
Paul Mead, sales and marketing director at Montracon, said: “Aluminium wheels are a popular upgrade for customers of these trailers from owner operators, fleets and dealers. They bring definite benefits that operators are increasingly recognising.”
Chris Bartlett, company director at Wilcox Commercial Vehicles, added: “Due to the price advantage offered by xlite wheels compared to competitor products, many customers have opted for the upgrade and been extremely satisfied with the quality.”
John Ellis, managing director of Motor Wheel Service, the UK distributors of xlite, concluded: “The recent experience of Montracon and Wilcox shows that there is a growing demand for lightweight wheels in the truck and trailer markets, and the quality of our product and price positioning are second-to-none.”
Xlite wheels are offered to customers as an option and MWS reports they have outsold all other aluminium wheel brands on offer, with the best seller being the 22.5×11.75 inch wheel in a machined finish. The wheels are five times stronger and 40 per cent lighter than the standard steel equivalent, and are forged from a single aluminium billet using a computerised numeric control machine to produce a higher degree of production accuracy, according to MWS’s description. They are available in 17.5, 19.5 and 22.5 inch sizes.
The product is offered with three finishes – machined, polished and xbrite – with the latter using a special coating to reduce necessary maintenance, cleaning and giving a longer-lasting shine. Other added benefits include increased safety, reduced vibration and longer wear on surrounding parts. The advantages of operating with forged aluminium wheels include the ability to carry extra payloads and reduce diesel usage.
