Bridgestone donates to New Zealand earthquake appeal
Bridgestone Australia and New Zealand have donated AU$100,000 (£62,000) to the New Zealand Red Cross Earthquake Appeal, a charity fund set up to assist those affected by the earthquake which struck the New Zealand city of Christchurch on February 22. The 6.3 magnitude quake caused significant loss of life and injury, as well as severely damaging buildings, infrastructure and services; Bridgestone Australia Ltd's group chairman and managing director Nobuyuki Mieno said the earthquake had "deeply affected the entire Bridgestone family.
“Bridgestone has a long and proud business history in New Zealand, where we are both a leading employer and retailer in the tyre industry,” Mieno said. “The Christchurch earthquake and its aftermath shocked and saddened us all. We hope our donation can help those trying to rebuild their homes, businesses and lives following this tragic event.”
Andrew Moffatt, senior executive director of Bridgestone Australia Ltd, and Ken Oyama, director of Bridgestone New Zealand, presented the cheques to representatives of the New Zealand Red Cross in Auckland on March 9.
