Avon launches ZZ5, UHP successor to ZZ3
Available in various fitments for 18 and 19-inch diameter rim sizes in the UK and mainland Europe from March 28, 2011 is the Avon ZZ5 ultra high performance tyre, following high speed durability testing at the Nürburgring, among other places. The tyre has what manufacturer Cooper Avon terms an “Intelligent Asymmetric Tread Design” and “Optinoise” technology for a quieter ride. The company says the tyre’s development on European roads and racetracks have given it improved handling and grip capabilities. The tyre is aimed at the small-medium high performance sector, typified by such models as the Audi S4 and Lotus Evora.
The ZZ5’s newly developed Tri-Arc mould shape works to improve contact pressure distribution and its tuned construction works together to offer crisp, predictable handling. The new tyre’s Intelligent Asymmetric Tread Design helps to impart confident handling and traction in dry conditions, in addition to greater water clearance efficiency on wet roads. The technology also contributes to a more balanced tread wear. Complementing its high performance characteristics, the ZZ5’s Optinoise technology helps to provide quieter running, and therefore the improved comfort expected in high performance vehicles.
Aimed at meeting “enthusiast driver demands”, the tyre received additional wet and dry performance testing at locations in the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain. The company says this pan-European focus “honed the ZZ5’s credentials as an ultra high performer”.
