Renewed Bridgestone contract “of great importance” to DHL’s tyre segment growth plans
Bridgestone Europe has renewed its Swedish market supply contract with DHL Supply Chain. The Jönköping based firm has handled Bridgestone Europe’s warehouse operations for the Swedish market since 1997 and the extended contract, valid until 2013, includes warehousing and a number of value-added services such as the studding of winter tyres.
“Bridgestone’s market share has been continuously growing,” said Annika Howse, Bridgestone’s manager Order Fulfillment North Region. “To maintain the growth on today’s competitive market, we look for a logistics partner who is able to deliver a high quality of service. We have high demands on both flexibility and the ability to manage Bridgestone’s seasonal changes of volumes, along with creating an efficient flow of stock by optimising the warehouse area and processes.”
DHL Supply Chain recently launched its ”Tire Initiative”, a new programme that aims to create a strong and competitive logistics solution for major tyre manufacturers in Europe. The Tire Initiative, says DHL, focuses on strategic efforts to share experience, knowledge and best practice within the DHL Supply Chain tyre segment. “We are very happy with the renewed contract with Bridgestone,” commented Johan Gustavsson, commercial manager for DHL Supply Chain in Sweden. “Our strategy is to grow within the European tyre segment. Therefore, this contract is of great importance not only to us but for the entire Group. We now keep our position as a strong player in warehousing and value-added services for the tyre industry.”
