Paper merchant converts industrial fleet to Michelin
Essex-based Ovenden Papers has used Michelin tyres on its delivery vehicles for a while, but chose to fit budget brand solid rubber tyres across its industrial fleet – until now, following a puncture-free 12 month trial of the XZM radial tyre. Joint managing director James Ovenden says: “We have been both surprised and impressed by the differences between economy tyres and Michelin fitments for our forklifts. The trial that Michelin set up lasted 750 hours, which is much longer than we are used to, and there were no punctures at all – even though we operate on high-risk surfaces.
“Our drivers couldn’t believe how much more comfortable the ride was – they said they could barely feel any bumps from the uneven surfaces. As well as benefiting staff, this also means our machines are likely to last longer as they will be better protected from shocks and jolts.”
Ovenden Papers’ industrial fleet comprises four high-reach trucks and six counter-balance trucks. The three vans and 19 HGVs on its delivery fleet also operate on a Michelin fitment, and all tyres are serviced at ATS Euromaster’s Waltham Abbey centre. The company delivers a wide range of products including digital office papers, speciality papers, uncoated and coated paper and board, envelopes and packaging across Greater London and the Home Counties.
