Michelin Pilot Road 3 given 5 stars in Bike Magazine tests
Michelin’s new Pilot Road 3 sports-touring tyre has been singled out as a five-star tyre by Bike Magazine in a test involving six other sports-touring tyres. The tyre, available since January this year, was the only one given full marks after testing completed at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground by freelance road tester and national level racer Bruce Dunn, who has 20 years experience assessing tyres.
Dunn said the Pilot Road 3 gave riders “more confidence and outright grip. I could confidently drag my knee through inch-deep puddles every lap. The Suzuki GSX1250 is a 275kg bike and these are road tyres. It was alarming at first, as I’ve only found this level of wet weather grip before with wets and without the movement you get from the blocks on a racing wet. These are the best road tyres I have used in the wet.”
The full tyre test will be published in the April 2011 issue of Bike Magazine currently on newsagents’ shelves. The Pilot Road 3 is available in most popular sizes now and will be available later this year in six additional front and eight rear sizes, including fitments for large trail bikes such as the BMW R1200GS.
