Kwik-Fit: Pothole Damage Costs UK Drivers £473 Million
UK car leasing customers are struggling to avoid potholes on the nation's roads, a study has revealed. According to Kwik Fit, nearly four in ten British motorists (or 13.7 million) have taken dangerous action to avoid hitting a pothole over the past 12 months.
When questioned, one in five drivers said that they had even swerved towards oncoming traffic to dodge damage on the roads. Some 7.6 million motorists suffered pothole damage to their vehicle in the past year, the research also revealed. This cost over £473 million just to repair wheels and tyres, which is almost £100 million more than in the previous year.
Ian Fraser, chief executive of Kwik Fit, said: “The big worry, aside from the huge cost to motorists in the damage they cause, is that these craters can lead to drivers putting themselves and other road users at risk as they swerve to avoid them.”
