Cooper Extends Dakar Rally Involvement
Cooper Tire has developed an online game to celebrate its expanded involvement in the Dakar Rally 2011. Cooper Tire has doubled its backing of the Toyota Cooper Tire squad for the 2011 running of the event, with the Land Cruiser KXR of Xavier Foj and Pablo Jaton joined by a Hi-Lux, piloted by Jesus Calleja and Ignacio Santamaria. Last year, the single car of Foj/Jaton finished second in the T2 Production class.
Taking competitors on an arduous 9000km trek through Argentina and Chile, including sections of the Atacama Desert and stretches of the Andes mountain range, the Dakar is famous for being the toughest rally challenge in the world.
The Toyota Cooper Tire team, including a third vehicle used as a support machine, will all use Cooper’s standard rugged Discoverer STT tyres.
In the 2010 Dakar, the Discoverer STTs demonstrated outstanding durability and commendable puncture resistance, thanks to their three-ply ArmorTek3 body, while the tread design and compound offered superb traction in a wide range of terrains faced by the squad.
The game, available at the company’s UK website (http://www.coopertire.co.uk/cooper-4×4-rally), is live now and allows visitors to compete stage-by-stage each day of the legendary Dakar Rally, which began on New Year’s Day.
