Vellco Celebrates 60 Years With Two New “60” Reg Trucks
Vellco Tyre Control recent took delivery of two brand new “60-registered” MAN 6×2 Tractor Units utilising unique EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) technology designed for Euro 5 engines. But for the company that began trading in 1950 the purchase was more than just a infrastructure investment, it was also something of a celebration of the fact that during 2010 the company has been celebrating 60 years of trading.
With an upturn in the requirement for additional resource in its trunking and networking operations, the addition of these two new vehicles is designed to bring “even more efficiency to Vellco’s logistics operation,” which covers nearly 2 million kilometres annually.
Vellco Transport & Logistics Manager Dave Hollis said: “I am very proud to take delivery of these two vehicles. The two new tractor units are state-of-the-art technology, being powerful yet efficient engines, utilising exhaust gas recirculation technology which returns over 30 per cent reduced emission rates compared with engines that do not have this feature.
“Both vehicles are also fitted with ESP (electronic stability program), ACC (active cruise control), EBS (electronic braking system), and CDC (continuous damping control), all of which help deliver additional safety as well as protecting both driver and cargo”.
Vellco’s business was started in 1950 by Robert Fell. He handed the business over in stages to his sons Chris and Bob during the 1980s and they continue today as the owners of this successful automotive recycling company.
According to the company, in 2009, Vellco collected nearly 4 million car and van end-of-life tyres, and more than half a million truck and commercial tyres.
