Apollo Recipient of India Manufacturing Excellence Awards
The manufacturing practices employed by Apollo Tyres have been recognised at The Economic Times India Manufacturing Excellence Awards 2010. These awards, instituted by The Economic Times, the largest read financial daily in India, and global consulting firm Frost & Sullivan, are intended to identify the best manufacturing facilities in India and map manufacturing capability, highlighting areas for improvement, through an objective and well-structured assessment process. The key considerations for a good score include global benchmarking, performance as compared to competition, supply and service to customers, quality focus, manufacturing discipline and excellence, and areas of improvement across functions.
Apollo’s manufacturing facility in Limda, Gujarat state won the Gold Award in for Process Sector, in the Mega Large Category. This award is given to only one company in the category. Furthermore, Apollo’s associate company, Classic Auto Tubes Ltd, in the western state of Maharashtra, which manufactures tubes solely for Apollo Tyres, received a Gold Certificate of Merit for Process Sector, in the Medium Category.
“We have been receiving the Gold Certificate of Merit from the last 3 years, and now we would be gearing for the highest recognition of IMEA, the Platinum Award,” said Satish Agarwal, chief, Corporate Manufacturing, Apollo Tyres Ltd, who received the awards on behalf of the company. “We have already identified the areas where we need to further improve – safety and environment, customer focus, visual management and operational flexibility.”
