Toyota Celebrates 20 Millionth Sale In Europe
Toyota recently celebrated the sale of its 20 millionth vehicle in Europe, just 10 years after recording its 10 millionth sale in the continent. The company's entry into the European market began in 1963, supplying 190 Crown models to a distributor in Denmark. Today, Toyota has nine production plants in Europe, building vehicles, engines and transmissions, as well as R&D, design and training centres. The company's investment in its European operations stands at 1.2 billion Euros and it employs around 3,000.
European production began in 1992 in the UK, with the opening of the Burnaston car plant and engine factory at Deeside in North Wales. Britain remains a strong market for Toyota, with sales of more than 2.7 million vehicles since sales began in 1965.
Toyota’s 20 millionth sale was a dark blue Verso2.0 D-4D, built at the Adapazari factory in Turkey. The customer was Mr. Jiménez Gabriel of Madrid, who was presented with the vehicle at a celebration ceremony held at the offices of Toyota Spain.
