Pirelli Renews BSB Control Tyre Supply Contract

For the past three years Pirelli has served as control tyre supplier to the British Superbike (BSB) and Supersport Championships, providing riders with a range of its Diablo tyres, some 5,500 of which are supplied and fitted over a typical race weekend by a team of 17 tyre technicians. Series organiser MotorSport Vision Ltd has now confirmed that Pirelli will continue in this role after successfully bidding for the supply tender covering the 2011 to 2015 seasons.

MotorSport Vision states that Pirelli’s selection reflects the Italian company’s “impressive support for the series in terms of performance, consistency, logistics and marketing.” The organiser also points to the fact that, after winning the first tender for the BSB Championship, Pirelli was able to “respond at short notice and put the necessary structure together to ensure the consistent supply of high performance tyres.”

“We are honoured to be associated with the British Superbike Championship for the next five years, it is a great series and the UK is a very important market for Pirelli,” commented Giovanni Tolasi, director of Pirelli Moto UK. “The series is strong and the battle this year went all the way to the last race, we like to think that we have some part in that due to the Pirelli tyre supply system giving fair and equal tyres to all riders and teams”

Stuart Higgs, British Superbike Series Director, added “there was much interest in the tyre contract for the coming seasons which is testament to the strength of the series. After much deliberation we are pleased to announce the continuation of our agreement with Pirelli as control tyre suppliers. Pirelli have given great importance to our series and have impressed us with their logistics operation for the teams. We look forward to another five years with Pirelli as a valued partner to BSB.”
