Dunlop SportSmart Voted MCN Tyre of 2010
During more than 50 years in print the UK based publication Motorcycle News (MCN) has sold nearly half a billion copies, and the information it shares is widely read and respected at home and internationally. It is thus no surprise that Dunlop takes pride in the selection of its Sportmax Sportsmart for this year’s MCN Product of the Year – Tyre award. The Dunlop rubber took top honours based both on the decision of the MCN judging panel and votes submitted by readers of the popular weekly paper.
Announcing this year’s winter, MCN editor Marc Potter said “the Dunlop SportSmart is the clear product of the year – tyre victor in 2010.” The motorcycling paper’s opinion seems to reflect that of riders, as Dunlop comments that since the SportSmart’s launch in March it has become one of the largest selling tyres in the market. The manufacturer attributes this sales success to the SportSmart’s ability to cope with a wide variety of riding conditions and the outstanding mileage it provides.
Dunlop describes the SportSmart, which is predominantly aimed at hypersport bikes, as a tyre that “gives outstanding grip in the wet like a sports touring tyre” while also providing “ultimate dry grip like a track day tyre.” The manufacture explains that the SportSmart is able to perform at these levels due to the “intelligent application” of three Dunlop technologies: MultiTread compound design, Jointless Belt (JLB) construction, and the race-bred NTEC pressure-adjust system. By combining these technologies together in the SportSmart, Dunlop believes it has produced an ideal rider’s package that offers strong grip, reassuring stability and precise feedback – with the valuable bonus of slow wear rates.
“We are thrilled to have won the prestigious MCN award,” said Dunlop motorcycle product manager Bryn Phillips. “This is the second time we have won this award with a tyre in our new range. Previously we took top spot with the Dunlop RoadSmart tyre which is aimed at sports touring bikes. We knew when we launched the SportSmart into the market that it would be a very strong contender for the award and when we received news of the win we were over the moon.”
“Winning this award proves to us that the research and development we put into our tyres is recognised within the industry by credible journalists and also by the public” Phillips.
