A Diverse Range and Approachable Team a Winning Formula for Clampco
When Clampco UK was founded in 2001, the company largely focused upon the supply of exhaust clamps and fittings to the exhaust and tyre fast fit sector. The firm was well received and its customer base grew to some 2,000 garages within a few years, yet during this period signs of decline in the exhaust market as a whole became apparent to Clampco. As Clampco managing director Stuart Hubble shares, it was clear the company’s only option for growth lay in diversifying and enlarging the product range on offer. With this in mind, Clampco focused its energies on investigating what other everyday items could be sold through its existing customer base. Two of the first additions to this wider range were tyre repair consumables and wheel balance weights – this was, notes Hubble, a “natural progression” from tyres and exhausts. Subsequently, Clampco added items covering the full spectrum of workshop requirements, including hygiene and safety products plus workshop cleaning products such mops, buckets and brushes. In addition to this, a full range of fast fit garage related tools such as impact wrenches and torque wrenches were added to the Clampco line-up.
Significant additions to the range have continued over the past few years and Hubble reports that Clampco now has over 7,000 different lines on offer. Recent additions include Compac jacks, the PCL nitrogen generator and tyre inflator, plus the Weber range of trolley jacks. Growth in Clampco’s product portfolio has been matched by growth in the company’s product base, the managing director adds. The company now seeks to be a “one stop shop” providing a next day delivery service.
“If Clampco had just relied on exhaust fittings then unfortunately we probably be wouldn’t be around today,” Stuart Hubble reflects. “Being a fairly small company with a ‘hands on and get it done approach’, we have diversified into a whole range of products that covers pretty much everything a garage or traditional fast fit would require on a day to day basis. Along the way we have managed to add some great suppliers with the likes of Compac Jacks, PCL, Sealey Tools & many more all on board. Although exhaust related products is still a large part of our business, the ranges of tyre related consumables, nuts and bolts, work wear, safety & cleaning items continues to grow. We have almost doubled our turnover in just over four years, and bearing in mind we haven’t been in the best economy recently then it’s no mean feat. I put it down to the hard work that everyone at Clampco has put in as well as being approachable with both customers & suppliers and just simply making things happen. It seems to be a winning formula!”
