Winter Tyres to Become Mandatory in Germany
Germany’s provincial transport ministers have decided upon the introduction of legislation making the use of winter tyres compulsory. The national transport minister, Peter Ramsauer, reports that appropriate changes to Germany’s Highway Code are expected to be implemented by in parliament “as soon as possible.”
The aim is to introduce a “concrete winter tyre obligation,” Ramsauer stated. Changes to the Highway Code should stipulate the weather conditions in which winter or all-season tyres must be fitted to a vehicle. Legislation to this effect could be introduced in Germany before the end of the year.
