Nokian Promotes Safety & Eco Benefits of WR G2
There’s been a nip in the air of late, and Nokian Tyres has recognised this as the perfect time for a reminder that fitting eco winter tyres can help reduce vehicle fuel consumption. “Car drivers even can cut their fuel consumption even by half a litre on 100 kilometres with the environmentally friendly low rolling resistance tyre Nokian WR G2 if the air pressure is right,” commented Teppo Huovila, vice president of R&D at the Finnish manufacturer. “A rolling resistance lowered by 40 per cent saves six per cent fuel.”
Huovila is naturally a partisan supporter of the Nokian product yet his opinions are also backed up by numerous independent appraisals, including tyre test results from Germany, Europe’s largest winter tyre market: According to the magazine “Auto Zeitung”, the Nokian WR G2 is “very recommendable”, while “auto motor und sport”, “Auto” and “sport auto” rate it “recommendable” and the German motorists’ association ADAC give it a “satisfactory” evaluation. When tested by the ADAC, the Nokian tyre demonstrated the shortest braking distance in wet conditions, with a stopping distance from 100km/h of 59 metres, 22 metres less than the poorest performing tyre. Furthermore, the ADAC gave the tyre a “good” rating for fuel consumption and wear resistance; it also scored highly for rolling resistance qualities in the Auto Zeitung and auto motor und sport tests. “Nokian eco winter tyres not only save plenty of fuel but additionally offer high safety, in particular when the road is wet and on slush, but on snow, ice and in the dry, too,” added Huovila.
The Nokian WR G2 range is described as “the largest winter tyre programme in the trade” and offers 67 sizes from 14-inch and T speed rating to 20-inch W rated tyres. A version for 4×4 vehicles, the WR G2 SUV, is also available.
