Michelin Bags Another US Military Award
For a third consecutive year Michelin Americas Truck Tires has been chosen by the Defense Logistics Agency’s (DLA) Land & Maritime supply centre as recipient of its Best Value Award. The US Department of Defense’s largest logistics combat support agency selected again Michelin for this honour on the merits of its performance in supplying tyres to every branch of the US military.
“Our men and women in uniform put forth their best effort every day for us, and it is an honour for the Michelin team to do the same for them,” said Jim Griese, Michelin’s director of military products. “The effort of getting tyres to the military would not be possible without the cooperation and help from several other tyre manufacturers and our logistics partner, SAIC.” Michelin notes that, out of more than 6,000 military parts suppliers in 2010, it was among only a few companies recognised for meeting performance requirements in the Automated Best Value System (ABVS).
In 2007, the tyre maker was awarded by a competitive bid the Tire Privatization Initiative contract to procure, store and distribute tyres to the US military. Under the terms of the contract, Michelin supplies tyres for various types of ground vehicles used by the military. In order to maintain the military’s tyre industrial base, Michelin sources the majority of these tyres from other tyre manufacturers. Since the awarding of the contract Michelin has processed more than 110,000 requisitions for more than one million tyres, and delivered them to more than 2,500 military locations around the world.
