Goodyear Shods Winners at British Ploughing Championships
On 9 and 10 October the British National Ploughing Championships took place at Grange de Lings near Lincoln. The winners of both the Reversible Final and the Conventional Final were using Optitrac tyres, manufactured by Goodyear, the event’s title sponsor. The Reversible Final saw Colin Bowen from Clun, Craven Arms in Shropshire win the plough-off with 19 points, retaining his title. Former World Ploughing Champion, John Hill from Hoylandswaine in Sheffield took the top spot in the Conventional Final plough-off with 21 points. Both ploughmen will represent England in the 2011 World Ploughing Contest to be held in Sweden.
Goodyear’s involvement in Lincoln was not limited to tyre supply and title-sponsorship; the tyre-maker also encouraged visitors to join its AGRI Club, set up to encourage the sharing of best practice and industry news throughout the UK’s farming community. Free to join, the Goodyear AGRI Club offers members regular email and postal newsletters as well as tyre offers and opportunities to join the Goodyear team at farming shows across the country.
Goodyear says the club reached 725 members at the Ploughing Championships, with both Bowen and Hill already members, benefiting from tyre offers and discounts. Ken Chappell, executive director of the Society of Ploughmen drew the annual AGRI Club competition to win £2000 worth of Goodyear Farm Tyres. The winner was James Steel who joined the AGRI club this year at the Great Yorkshire Show. James farms at Middleton Farm, Milnathorty, Kinross.
“We have had yet another successful year at the Ploughing Championships and we are very proud to have both Colin and John ploughing on Goodyear” said Phil Stanton, Goodyear Farm Tyre manager. “We were also pleased to have drawn our annual competition to win £2000 worth of our farm tyres and look forward to equipping James’ tractor with Goodyear tyres.”
