Garages and Vehicle Main Dealers Support Tyre Safety Month
Tyre Safety Month launched today with national backing from Motor Codes and its nationwide network of 6,500 garages along vehicle main dealers of the four Fiat Group brands. Fiat Group Automobiles UK announced that Alfa Romeo, Abarth, Fiat and Fiat Professional will promote the importance of correct tyre care and maintenance across their 328-strong, UK retail and service networks. The Fiat Group’s support will begin by offering drivers free tyre safety checks at its dealerships during tyre safety month.
“We are delighted by Fiat’s decision to join TyreSafe and become the latest vehicle manufacturer trying to reduce the number of tyre related accidents and injuries,” explained Stuart Jackson, chairman, TyreSafe. “With such an extensive network and customer base, their support and involvement will be a valuable addition to our efforts in educating drivers about the importance and simplicity of regular tyre checks.”
Through its membership of TyreSafe, the Fiat Group aims to further its safety credentials. It already provides a series of ‘how to’ guides on its website, which includes advice on how to change a wheel and how to check your tyre tread and all retail customers’ vehicles are given a full vehicle health check to ensure they are in a safe and roadworthy condition.
“With our emphasis on improving safety and educating drivers, joining TyreSafe is an obvious move,” explains John Murray, sales manager, parts & service for Fiat Group Automobiles UK. “Their experience and wealth of knowledge will help us enormously in educating our customers about the need for regular tyre checks and starting with tyre safety month, we will utilise their campaigns as an integral part of our ongoing dialogue with owners.”
Motor Codes back tyre safety month
For its part Motor Codes is encouraging its service and repair centres to advise customers of key tyre safety issues and to offer free tyre safety checks.
“Motor Codes offers peace of mind for motorists at reputable service and repair centres that have committed to the Industry Code of Practice, so highlighting tyre safety fits perfectly with our key criteria of raising standards for motorists,” said director, Chris Mason. “Tyre safety checks, free advice and the reassurance of government-backing is sure to be popular with motorists and it is perfect timing as the dangerous, wetter, months begin.”
Department for Transport figures show that 2.3 million vehicles failed MOT tests in 2009/10 due to poor tyre condition. With over 145 million tyres in use on vehicles across the UK, Motor Codes garages say they aim to help motorists make significant savings, in addition to enhancing their safety.
