Conti’s European Prices to Rise
Continental AG notes the price of natural rubber has reached “well over” US$3 per kilogram, a level it calls a historic high for the commodity. In order to compensate for this, the company plans to increase prices for its replacement market summer tyres throughout Europe by an average of five per cent. The price increase will apply to all Continental passenger car tyre brands within the region.
“We are currently working on implementing this price increase right across Europe in order to offset at least some of the substantial increases experienced this year in the cost of raw materials. We opted for January 2011 as a date so that our customers can now focus their attention on the winter tyre business which is so important for us all,” commented Dr. Hartmut Wöhler, head of Marketing and Distribution for the Car Tire Replacement Market in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
