Avon Tyres British GT titles claimed at Brands Hatch
David Ashburn claimed the 2010 Avon Tyres British GT Championship title at the penultimate round of the series at Brands Hatch in Kent last weekend. The 63-year-old and his Trackspeed Porsche teammate, Glynn Geddie, collected a win and a fifth place in the weekend’s pair of hour-long races and enough points to put the overall title beyond the reach of anyone but Ashburn.
The G4 class championship was also settled at the Kent circuit, with Speedworks Ginetta G50 pairing, Christian Dick and Jamie Stanley, taking a brace of podium finishes to claim the crown. The final round of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship will be at Donington Park on October 17.
Ashburn, who was partnered in his Porsche by several different drivers during the year, beamed, “I’d like to thank everyone without whose help during the year I would not be in this position now. The whole team has been fantastic. It’s been a great season for me and I’m delighted.”
Dick and Stanley netted their title in the G4 class despite suffering gearbox problems during the Brands Hatch weekend. Dick said, “We knew we were capable of sealing it this weekend, but we expected a stronger challenge. Even with a problem in the last race, we still managed to get to the finish and collect enough points, so it was outstanding.”
