Maxxis-Sponsored Team Japspeed Hosts US Drift Champion at TRAX
Maxxis-sponsored Formula D champion Chris Forsberg was at TRAX on 5 September, where he took the wheel of Team Japspeed’s 450bhp Nissan S15 to demonstrate his skills in a series of high speed stunts. The American drift star flew in specially to take part in “the Ultimate Performance Car Event”, making his UK debut with demonstrations in the TRAX Action Arena. Forsberg signed autographs on the Maxxis stand and treated eight lucky fans to a passenger ride around Silverstone.
Team Japspeed – sponsored by Maxxis in this year’s Maxxis British Drift Championship – lent Forsberg one of its proven BDC-winning S15 drift cars for his demonstrations. Usually piloted by Danny Eyles, the S15 runs on the Maxxis MA-Z1 Drift, which Forsberg also uses on his Formula D Nissan 350Z. Commenting on the experience, Forsberg said: “I had such an awesome time at the TRAX event at Silverstone. The turnout was massive! I heard the crowd was 20,000 strong despite the small amount of rain we got during the afternoon.
“First off, I want to thank the guys at TRAX for having me come to their event, and I’d like to thank the entire crew from Japspeed. Their hard work kept the cars going through all the demos on Sunday; we were beating on the car pretty hard to make sure the show was good for the crowd.”
TRAX was the final show of this year’s Adrian Flux Auto Events Series, for which Maxxis was the Official Tyre Partner. In addition to taking a prime spot in the Platinum Retail Village, Maxxis brought along the ever-popular Maxxis Babes, who mingled with fans and posed for photographs. Maxxis has enjoyed a highly successful exclusive promotional arrangement with special-interest media company Future, which organises TRAX and several of the best-attended performance/ tuning events staged in the UK, and will be looking to develop this relationship into 2011.
“Chris Forsberg is a big draw at drift events around the USA, so we were delighted that he was able to join us at this year’s TRAX and make such a big impression,” says Maxxis UK’s managing director Derek McMartin. “He showed he was on great form with some amazing demonstrations of car control that turned out to be a huge crowd pleaser. Our thanks to Team Japspeed for giving Chris such a warm welcome and showing him just what the UK drifting scene has to offer.”
