Kumho Marks Half-Century with New Performance Tyre
On September 2, Kumho Tires celebrated its 50th anniversary in South Korea with the launch of a new product, the Majesty Solus. Some 200 guests attended a ceremony at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul to mark both the milestone and the new tyre’s release.
Executive vice president Jae-Won Byeon of RE Development, who has led the tyre’s development over a two-year period, said the Majesty Solus “is a masterpiece that completes the half-century history of Kumho Tires. We have applied the best technology available to this product, as a way of showcasing Kumho’s technical leadership, developed over the course of fifty years.”
The name of the new high performance tyre means ‘class’ and ‘pride’, a moniker Kumho says befits its status as the high-end product in the Solus passenger car tyre range. The Solus Majesty utilises a silica compound and has an asymmetrical tread featuring four circumferential grooves to dispel water from the contact area and to improve high-speed straight line driving. According to Kumho, in comparison with its domestic rivals the Majesty Solus offers between five and ten per cent more effective braking, noise reduction, ride quality and abrasion resistance. Noise reduction, explains Kumho, is provided through a noise absorption layer utilising the company’s proprietary ‘KANT’ or Kumho Antinoise Technology.
The Majesty Solus is available to customers in Kumho’s home market in six ZR rated fitments for rim diameters between 17 and 19 inches. Kumho Tires states its intention is to recover its competitiveness in the premium market sector through the launch of the Majesty Solus. “From planning to development, this product was designed to fully meet the needs of our domestic customers,” commented CEO Jong-Ho Kim. “By applying all of Kumho’s best technologies and expertise to this product, we want to show the customers our strong will to maximise customer values and improve market confidence.”
