Full Grid on Anglesey as Dunlop Supplies NBC Control Tyre
On 10 September the No Budget Cup (NBC) came to the UK for the first time, staging a one off race at Anglesey. The peninsula saw a strong grid of 48, the maximum amount of racers allowed on the grid at the Welsh circuit. Dunlop tyres partnered with the NBC to become the control tyre for the championship, which has plans for more UK-based events in 2011.
Each NBC team can use only one set of dry D211GP Racer and one set of wets during each three hour race. Making the tyres last for as long as possible is one of the challenges of this one of a kind endurance race.
The objective of the NBC is to race on a budget. NBC worked together with the ACU to develop a new category of sport called sport endurance and have their own licence for the UK race that doesn’t require riders to have expensive or complicated medical tests. They appeal for riders to use older bikes and insist on a one set of tyres rule.
A very large variation of bikes were represented on the grid, from very basic early nineties Honda CBR600F’s over late nineties Yamaha R1’s and R6’s to the occasional Yamaha TRX850 and YZF750. A heavily modified Ducati 888 made an appearance and a couple of very affordable SV650’s. Suzuki GSX-R’s and Honda Fireblades also tend to be represented in large numbers on the NBC grid, Dunlop says.
