Best European Rallycross Drivers Use Avon Rubber
Avon Tyres has reported a very successful 2010 FIA European Rallycross Championship, with every competitor in the top 10 of all three divisions using Melksham-made rubber. In an open-choice formula where the demands on the tyre are great – competitors need a product that performs on both gravel and asphalt over the course of a race – Avon was delighted to be proved the tyre to be selected throughout the field and across all classes.
Paul Coates, general manager for Avon Motorsport, said of the season: “We’re extremely proud of our record in rallycross as the challenge of providing a tyre for different surfaces isn’t an easy one to meet. But it’s a credit to all the team in Melksham that Avon has met that challenge head-on for another year and been so successful again. We can never rest on our laurels though and are constantly developing the tyres to ensure we stay on top for many years to come.”
Norway’s Sverre Isachsen clinched the main Division 1 Championship in his Ford Focus with one round to go, while 14-time ERC Champion Kenneth Hansen took the runner-up spot for a seventh time. Britain’s Liam Doran took third, both competing in Citroën C4s. Russia’s Timur Timerzyanov claimed the Division 1A Championship ahead of his countryman Ildar Rakhmatullin and Norway’s Andreas Bakkerud, while in Division 2 it was Ireland’s Derek Tohill that took the title. Norwegians Knut Over Borseth and Ole Kristian Nottveit filled the top three, again with all having used Avon Tyres on their way to victory.
