Tyre Rubber Filler Manufacturer to Build Asia Eco-Mineral Plant
Fly ash recycling technology firm RockTron has announced it will launch RockTron Asia at the IGEM Conference in Malaysia between 17 and 24 October. Malaysia will provide the British company’s first Asian facility, which will be able to recycle 100 per cent of both fresh and stockpiled coal-fired power station waste (otherwise known as fly ash) through its closed wet system, without any waste stream, according to the company. The processed “eco-minerals” can be used to manufacture tyre rubber filler, as a company representative explains: “RockTron’s product MinTron is a filler for tyre rubber and costs a fraction of the market price (approximately 25-40 per cent less). The amount destined for tyre application is limited to how much a client wishes to order (i.e. it is limitless). Our UK plant at fiddlers ferry is capable of recycling 800,000 tonnes of fly ash and turning it into fillers for rubber in tyres.”
RockTron’s senior executives and technical directors will travel to Kuala Lumpur to give exclusive presentations to major manufacturers of components using polymers, compounders, rubber and coatings for use in automotive, aviation, medical, construction, electrical, as well as other industrialists, potential investors, energy companies and government representatives from across Asia. The company is an IGEM sponsor and executive deputy chairman, Dr John H Watt will be a keynote speaker at the event.
Over 2 billion tonnes of fly ash is dumped in landfills sites around the world, says RockTron, yet it is made up of valuable industrial raw materials. RockTron developed the technology to allow these raw materials to be recycled. Its new UK plant located at Fiddler’s Ferry in the UK is now online, capable of transforming 800,000 tonnes of fly ash per annum into valuable eco-minerals on an industrial scale. The recycling technology, RockTron claims, will prevent the creation of fly ash mountains and landfills, enabling site remediation and local environmental improvements.
RockTron continues that its proprietary process offers a consistent year-round supply of five new, high performance eco-mineral products, four of which are naturally spherical. They include hollow and solid alumino-silicate microspheres (<1 to 300 micron) and solid paramagnetic microspheres. They can be used as fillers and extenders in rubber, elastomers, thermoplastics, thermosets and as substitutes in all forms of concrete, with applications in the automotive and aviation industries, paints, coatings, flooring, cabling, piping, construction and domestic appliances.
RockTron Asia’s chairman, Y. Bhg. Dato’ Mohd Yazid Dato’ Haji Baba said: “We can dramatically cut manufacturers’ costs and their CO2 emissions. RockTron’s unique process removes the fly ash tips and lagoons that pollute our planet, proving what is good for business can also be good for the environment.”
