Rösler Setting Up Schelkmann Retreading in Canada
Over the last few years the Rösler Group has focused intensely upon marketing its licensed Schelkmann retreading system internationally. Currently the sixth facility to utilise the system is being set up in the east Canadian province of New Brunswick. As company managing director Martin Rösler explained to Tyres & Accessories, construction work in Canada is progressing rapidly. Truck tyre retreader Pneu ABC Tires Inc. will commence the precure retreading of OTR tyres there by the middle of next year, with the bulk of output being delivered to Swiss mining company Xstrata, who extensively quarries resources in eastern Canada and is an existing ABC Pneu Tires customer. The project is being implemented through a 2.5 to three million euro investment.
While at the moment only the plant building has been erected, before the end of the year the first of two planned autoclaves should be installed. This autoclave will then begin handling 25 to 51-inch tyres before the middle of 2011. Pneu ABC Tires intends to install a further autoclave no more than two years after the New Brunswick Schelkmann plant’s commissioning, and thereafter the facility will be capable of vulcanising OTR tyres in sizes up to 57-inches. During the period when the only the first autoclave is functioning the site will have an annual capacity of between 750 and 1,000 tyres; when the second autoclave joins it in operation production will effectively double.
While the Rösler Group currently provides its new licensee with the latest know how and technology, the basic contract will run for at least five years. During this time Pneu ABC Tires will also purchase all necessary materials for retreading, such as treads and tread bar segments, exclusively from the license supplier in Germany. Currently Rösler already supplies five Schelkmann facilities: in Indonesia, Australia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan plus in the company’s home town of Dortmund, Germany. Martin Rösler adds that two additional potential candidates – in India and Chile – are in negotiations regarding Schelkmann licenses.
