Nizhnekamskshina Tyres OE on New Volkswagen India Model
Volkswagen opened a new factory in Chakan, western India in March 2009 and, along with the Skoda Fabia, now produces Polo models there. Russian tyre manufacturer OAO Nizhnekamskshina reports that it is supplying OE tyres for the new saloon version of the Polo, known as the Vento, built at the 115,000 square metre facility. Following the shipment of a batch of tyres for testing in late July 2010, the first consignment of Kama-Euro 236 tyres was air freighted to India.
The Volkswagen Vento is being sold to Indian customers with two tyre size options – a 175/70 R14 mounted on a steel wheel for the base Trendline model and a 185/60 R15 with alloy wheel for the more upmarket Highline model. According to information on a Nizhnekamskshina website the Kama-Euro 236 is only produced in the larger of these sizes. Supply to Volkswagen in India follows a OE deal with the German carmaker to deliver the Kama-Euro 129 as OE to Polo models manufactured in its Kaluga, Russia factory.
