New Size Added to Michelin XFN 2 Antisplash Range
European fleet operators wishing to equip their vehicles for safer winter operation can now obtain Michelin’s XFN 2 Antisplash in size 385/55 R22.5 TL. This front steer-axle tyre is part of Michelin’s ‘X Grip’ portfolio of cold weather tyres and is intended for multi-purpose use on long-distance routes plus national and regional roads. The XFN 2 Antisplash bears the M+S symbol and is suitable for year-round operation.
A patented ‘antisplash’ deflector has been incorporated into the XFN 2 Antisplash’s design, and Michelin reports this feature reduces water splash by a factor of four; the tyre maker comments that this not only improves visibility for all road users in wet and slushy conditions, including rearview mirror visibility for truck drivers – it also helps trucks remain cleaner for longer, saving on cleaning costs. Michelin explains the patented deflector as being a circumferential rubber lip between the tyre’s tread and sidewall that deflects water away at a low angle. An additional XFN 2 Antisplash feature is the “double wave” sipe technology it employs. Developed as part of Michelin’s Durable Technologies package of innovations, these three-dimensional tread block located sipes are intended to offer has high levels of mobility in wet and slushy conditions without compromising mileage performance.
Michelin notes that the XFN 2 Antisplash tyre’s casing is regroovable and retreadable – the manufacturer recommends Michelin Remix retreading. In addition to the latest size, the range is available in sizes 315/70 R 22.5 TL and 385/65 R 22.5 TL.
