Hankook “Likely” to Choose Indonesia
The amount Hankook Tire invests in Indonesia could be as much as US$1.2 billion. Gita Wirjawan, chairman of the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board, has been quoted by Indonesian media as saying Hankook has “informed us that they will likely choose Indonesia.” According to the Jakarta based newspaper Bisnis Indonesia, work on the 15 million tyres per annum capacity plant will begin at the end of the year.
“Hankook is a huge player. Indonesia will become the production base for the world, not only for Asia, but also for Europe and the US,” Wirjawan commenting, adding that the tyre maker had studied several locations near the capital Jakarta as possible sites for the factory. The South Korean tyre maker has also considered Vietnam as a potential location.
