TAFF Awards 2010: Tyre Wholesaler of the Year Nominations
This is always a hard-fought category and four of last year's nominees are in the running for the 2010 award. The question is whether the four will be shaken or stirred by new kid on the block (at least as far as the TAFF Awards are concerned) Bond International?
B.I.T.S.: For over 73 years B.I.T.S, which is a part of The County Tyre Group, has been offering outstanding service and value to its large customer portfolio. It is proud of its heritage as a wholly independent, family-owned group with its headquarters based in Bristol.
To operate its key daily delivery service throughout the vast majority of the UK, B.I.T.S has strategically opened key wholesale centres in order to ensure that no matter where you are located there will be a B.I.T.S wholesale centre to fulfil customers orders.
The company has always provided tyres from all the leading manufacturers but has now diversified so that it now is the exclusive sole distributor of three quality brands.
Firstly there is Roadstone’s range, which covers 4x4s from the popular SUVs from BMWs to Volvos. This has been joined recently by Dextero, an exciting new large range of tyres of high quality and performance. The third sole tyre brand is the Vee Rubber tyre range, which reinforces and complements the total range on offer from B.I.T.S. These three sole exclusive brands are all designed to give the retailers maximum choice and availability at great prices for their customers.
B.I.T.S believes that they have got it right – The right service and The right value all at The right price.
Going into 2011, the B.I.T.S team aims to improve its service, not only by investing in the latest technology, exciting exclusive brands, but also in its people for, as the company says, its service plain and simple that makes the B.I.T.S difference.
Bond International: Bond International continues to be one of the largest ‘independent friendly’ tyre distributors in the UK. What began as a local business over 40 years ago has grown to a truly national one. Bond’s original strategy remains today to supply the best priced products and get them to the customer on time. With four national distribution centres, a fleet of over 80 satellite-tracked vehicles and three daily deliveries to many locations, Bond certainly mean business.
Managing director Reg Bond has personally sourced tyres from all over the world, especially the Far East, securing low priced products for his customers, giving them the opportunity to enhance their own business. The second generation of Bonds are now firmly engaged in the day-to-day business. There have been many changes in the tyre industry over the last 40 years, but Bond remain as committed as they were from day one to provide products and services to support their customers.
Bond International has a growth plan to increase business by more than 25 per cent over the next two and a half years. To implement these changes Steve Tidmarsh, formerly MD of Kumho Tyre UK, joined the Company as financial director on the 1 July 2010.
“Changes to areas identified as providing improvements to our customers, such as communication and teamwork are now in place and we are continuing to push forward our development strategy,” Steve Tidmarsh commented.
Grouptyre: Operating as a national distributor while maximising its local market expertise is reportedly enabling leading independent tyre wholesaler Grouptyre to continue developing solid business relationships with its key business partners and grow its share of the market.
The 13 member companies continue to invest in key areas such as warehousing, distribution and IT, thus achieving key operating efficiencies which, in turn, make it easier for retailers to do business with Grouptyre.
By offering the biggest and broadest range of products – its stockholding of a million tyres includes all the major brands plus exclusive value brands Maxxis and Federal – a national, multiple same-day to on-demand delivery service through its 35 distribution points and competitive prices, Grouptyre offers a complete ‘one stop’ service. As a result, retailers can grow their businesses by maximising profit margins while also providing a cost-effective service to consumers.
Over the last two years, Grouptyre has implemented a series of national incentives in conjunction with Maxxis, Federal, Pirelli, Continental, Dunlop and Goodyear, which have enabled the company to build retailer relationships and expand its customer base in all areas of the market. All of these developments have undoubtedly played a key part in Grouptyre being nominated for the 2010 TAFF Wholesaler of the Year Award.
Grouptyre’s ‘National strength, Local service’ enables retailers to take advantage of a member’s local market knowledge while also enjoying access to resources that are only available through a national organisation committed to working alongside tyre manufacturers and retailer partners for the long term.
