Nokian Releases HTS Straddle
Nokian Tyres has released a new tyre for straddle carriers. This new radial tyre, the HTS Straddle, is designed for work in harbours and goods terminals and combines, says Nokian, the high load-bearing capacity desired by operators with excellent driving comfort appreciated by drivers.
The structural solutions in the Nokian HTS Straddle differ from traditional harbour tyre design, states Nokian. “The multi-layer tyre body, featuring an ultra-durable textile structure, ensures the stability of the straddle carrier even at high speeds,” reports the tyre maker in a release. “The sturdy construction maximises the stiffness of the body, which enables the optimal utilisation of the stability and load-bearing capacity of the nimble, quick straddle carrier.”
“Thanks to the improved stability, straddle carriers can achieve higher average speeds and a precise steering response in the cramped, busy loading harbour areas,” said Martti Päivinen, product development manager at Nokian Heavy Tyres. “The optimal deflection zone in the tyre sidewall enhances durability by dampening any sudden blows and impacts.”
The tread compound used in the HTS Straddle features elastomers and Nokian says it offers exceptional wear resistance without compromising the impressive cut resistance. The Nokian release explains the compound in further detail: “The motion of the microscopic molecules in the tread compound dampens quickly, which means that the tyre generates less heat. At the same time, the flexible, strong bonds between the molecules can endure even hard impacts.”
According to Nokian, the HTS Straddle’s durability “is of the absolute top level on the market.” The first size in the new range is 16.00R25, which is the most common tyre size of 8-wheeled straddle carriers. It features a load-bearing capacity of 14 000kg/1 000 kPa/25 km/h.
