Goodyear Dunlop Gets OHSAS 18001 Health & Safety Certification
Goodyear Dunlop has been awarded Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series 18001 certification, following an external audited by BSI. OHSAS 18001 was created from a number of the world’s leading national standards bodies, certification bodies, and specialist consultancies to establish an occupational health and safety management system. It is designed to ensure the company is legally compliant with its major focus being on continual improvement, as well as eliminating or minimising risk to employees, contractors and visitors. The certificate was granted across both Goodyear Dunlop manufacturing sites in the Midlands based in Bushbury, Wolverhampton and in Birmingham near Fort Dunlop.
To achieve this award the manufacturing sites had to commit to a number of health and safety measures which are set out within the standard. According to company representatives, achieving the certification has “challenged the culture within the company, as it has involved all employees buying in to 18001 to ensure the manufacturing sites fully comply with the regulations set out by the standard”.
John Frazer, OHSAS 18001 coordinator for Goodyear Dunlop said: “Gaining the certification has been a real team effort. Health and safety is everyone’s responsibility and for the auditing company BSI to award us OHSAS 18001 is testament to the outstanding commitment of our employees on both sites. The support from the manufacturing team, as a whole, has been nothing short of magnificent from all areas of the business.
“At Goodyear Dunlop our global safety message is ‘no-one gets hurt’ and by achieving OHSAS 18001 we are continuing to raise the bar. Although we have now achieved this award this is just the beginning and we need to ensure that the hard work continues as maintaining the standard will need just as much commitment and hard work as the initial certification.”
