European Developed Winter Line Added to Cooper Portfolio
Cooper Tire has introduced two new ranges of high performance tyres intended for winter conditions, the WM-SA2 and WM-ST3. The manufacturer reports these newest members of Cooper’s high-performance line-up benefit from the latest state-of-the-art production technology and have been designed to offer firm footing on snow and slush.
The WM-SA2’s features what Cooper calls ‘Tapered Alternating Groove (TAG) Technology’ and forward-facing shoulder grooves; these, the tyre maker explains, greatly enhance braking ability, while its backward-facing centre groove improves traction. Cooper comments that, as winter motoring conditions in the UK become increasingly unpredictable and winter tyre sales rise, this latest offering – which it states has been benchmarked against leading brands and was developed in Europe – is a timely addition to the company’s performance winter tyre line and is ideally suited to the UK’s winter weather.
To complement the introduction of the WM-SA2, Cooper has also launched the WM-ST3, a more extreme winter tyre intended to offer exceptional grip in ice and snow. The manufacturer says it achieves this through its intelligent stud placement, which optimises ice traction by boosting the number of stud channels through the contact patch. Meanwhile, Cooper states that its nano polymer technology enhances wet, snow and ice grip at low temperatures without sacrificing tread wear, and provides the WM-ST3 with predictable and precise handling characteristics.
Both new tyres feature a directional tread pattern that Cooper says gives for improved traction, and the WM-SA2 and WM-ST3 are manufactured in accordance with current and future EU regulations, using cleaner oil and offering low rolling resistance and less noise. Both T-rated ranges are already on the market in a variety of dimensions for 13 to 16-inch rim sizes, including many extra load fitments.
