Cooper Launches New North American Winter Range
Cooper Tire & Rubber has released its latest North American market winter tyre. Called the Weather-Master WSC (Winter and Snow Confidence), Cooper says the new tyre represents the "next generation of tyres designed to deliver superior winter performance." The manufacturer says the Weather-Master WSC's was developed for drivers of newer SUVs, CUVs, smaller pickups and some passenger car applications looking for improved traction on slushy and snow-covered winter roads. It adds that the tyre's directional design, combined with a high silica tread compound, is ideally suited for the toughest winter conditions. The range is initially offered in ten T-rated sizes for 17 and 18-inch diameter rim sizes.
“With the launch of the Weather-Master WSC, Cooper will continue to provide consumers with the most dependable winter tyre products on the market today,” said Chuck Yurkovich, Cooper’s vice president of global technology. “This new product is the result of the company’s technology-driven focus and commitment to enhancing product quality and performance.”
The Weather-Master WSC uses a proprietary high-silica, specialised polymer, low modulus tread compound that Cooper says was designed to provide superior ice, slush and wet grip even in extreme cold temperatures, providing performance and confidence at every turn. Its directional tread design features ‘Snow Groove’ technology, something that Cooper says improves snow acceleration and handling. Micro-gauge sipes are also present, intended to offer the biting edges necessary to provide improved traction in snow and on ice . For additional traction on icy surfaces, the WSC offers a 132 stud count utilising a 12 row stud pattern for superior grip capability when studded to help hold the road.
